Theatre Jukebox at The New Library of Birmingham
Wingate Bett is a glamorous yet tragic tale of unrequited love told through a series of mementoes and diary entries that span thirty years between 1934 and 1964.
It is like flicking through a scrapbook, each ticket sparking images, associations and toe-tapping jazz tunes to transport you back in time. So take a seat, slip on some headphones, choose a ticket and travel with our heroine from Tokyo to London, Milwaukee to Birmingham, and Cannes back to Tokyo.
Commissioned by Capsule for the Discovery Trail, Stand + Stare used the Wingate Bett Transport Ticket Collection as inspiration to develop and create this fictional piece. The collection is held in the Library of Birmingham and consists of over one million tickets used on railways, buses, ships, airlines, ski-lifts and trams worldwide, dating from 1840 to 1977.
You can experience it on the fourth floor of the New Library of Birmingham until the end of December 2013.
