Nesting
Nest production for Generation Wild is in full swing and our fabricator Aron Duckworth has got a team on board to help in the workshop in Bristol. In total there will be seven!
Once they’re nestled into the woodlands and wetlands of various WWT sites, you won’t be able to see the robust steel frames, but here’s a sneak preview of how they’re being made:
Steel-worker Ollie is welding the frames in concentric circles with a low centre of gravity and wide feet to ensure they don’t tip
Aron and Gareth are armed with hundreds of screws as they clad the nest in elm, birch, ash and mixed coppice from local trees.
The nest arrives on site at WWT Slimbridge and is fixed into position.
