We’ve been working with South West Fibreshed to produce a box of knitted and woven samples that showcase small scale farmers and suppliers who produce ethically made yarn for british artisans. The box features beautiful photos from Hatty Bell. Each page conceals an NFC tag that connects to films and audio about each wool producer.
The project aims to reconnect fashion and farming by capturing a diverse selection of 100% natural fibre yarns that are grown in the landscapes of the South West. Every fibre farm featured has taken the leap and invested time and resources into spinning fibre into yarn, which show the potential for British made yarn to be used in functional ways to create beautiful artisan garments.
“Your clothes are an agricultural act – by purchasing and wearing you are voting for the agriculture you do or don’t want to see in the world.”
We created the design and layout for the sample box using british-made papers from GF Smith and embedded interactive NFC tags within the pages. Using an NFC enabled phone, simply tap your phone on the Fibreshed logo to access films and audio recordings from the producers.
The film below was made alongside the production of the sample box by Fibreshed director Emma Hague and filmmaker Hatty Frances Bell.
